2020 has been a year of unprecedented upheaval and as we draw down to it, we thought of looking back to the most talked about bags in the past year.

While its true this year has been marked with tremendous changes in how our society function, one that still hasn’t changed is the love of women towards their beloved handbags. Sales in India has scaled a new high and as with the global industry we perennially struggle with supply side chokepoints than demand side which is heartening to see.

Even though we may have taken a few steps back, whether that means trimming down our closets, falling back in love with the existing ones, or saving and budgeting extra hard to acquire our newest craving, we can all still appreciate the joy and community that these most precious pieces in our closet bring.

This year the focus on trend-driven bags continued along with an inclination towards the age old philosophy of what’s old is new. Check out our list below to see the bags that remained highly discussed this past year.

Bottega Veneta The Pouch

  1. The pouch introduced last year has continued to turn heads in the bag world, garnering attention from celebs and influencers to everyday bag lovers. With a structure quite a bit more functional at the first glance and equally as stylish well, the Pouch continues to be the fashion world’s most coveted It-Bags. This year Bottega Veneta tweaked this highly coveted design by adding a chunky chain shoulder strap ( as has been observed to be the most visible Bag trend of 2020 ) to this typically strap-less design. Bottega Veneta’s quality has always been spot on and this design oozes that traditional Italian craftsmanship. The Pouch is single handedly responsible for the current clutch movement and has inspired many other design houses to try and emulate its success.

Chanel 19 Bag

2. The Chanel 19 which gets its name from its release year, markedly rose in popularity in 2020. The bag has become an iconic staple both within Chanel’s lineup as well as with the fashion connoisseurs around the globe. Modeled after the Chanel’s original 2.55 line, the 19 is softer and less structured with a bold chunky chain that resonates well in 2020. Chanel has released numerous new iterations of the 19 this year–from denim and tweed to sequins and velvet proving that the 19 is here to stay.

Prada Re-edition 2000

A favorite of the Kardashians who were likely just babies when the the bag was first launched, the Prada Re-Edition 2000 was reintroduced late last year. A well-known design, the bag popped up at a time when vintage-inspired and archival revival themes are at their peak. With an easy to care and blot resistant nylon that now seems more sought-after than ever, the bag was obviously well poised to reclaim its former glory as it did. Thanks to its baguette like shape and tiny shoulder strap that easily sits under the arm the bag is an excellent combination of practicality & vintage timelessness.

Defined by its signature curved lines and the silhouette, the bag somehow still feels both modern and classic at the same time.
